Kiriban - Geisha1 for issues09 by bechedor79 Kiriban - Geisha1 for issues09 by bechedor79
Version 1 of the Geisha for ~issues09. Second version here [link] -- the only difference is blurred background. This took me forever and a day to do because I was trying to do a LOT of research on geisha and making sure I did a geisha and not a maiko and all that jazz. Even so, I ended up giving up on a lot of stuff, because this took so long, and I'm just worn out. So there are a lot of things I would fix (e.g. hair ornaments, obi, kimono sleeves, etc.), but it's just gonna stay as it is.

I hope you all notice that I actually put effort into a background on this one (that stupid tree just about killed me).

And *LordDragonClaw, I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I don't know when I'll get cracking on your kiriban...eegh, hopefully soonish. I've a couple things I need to finish first, though.

My resources:
If you want any info on geisha, Immortal Geisha is the website to go to.
Wikipedia gave me a couple links, I think, and some general information.
How Stuff Works helped me with geisha-hair (which is different from maiko hair) -- sorta...it still looks weird. I sorta gave up there.
Sakura brushes from Glamoury (look at me, crediting brushes! But that's because I never knew how hard it was to find brushes on dial-up when you're using Photoshop Elements, so I remembered this one). I think it's like [link] or something like that.

Oy, and I forgot: pose is indeed referenced from a vintage picture from Immortal Geisha.

I figure I should scraps one of these version, but I don't know which. You guys have any opinions on which one?

Yay, thanks. Yeah, I notice I tend to make heads disproportionately big. I'm gonna go with you on this one, though, and pretend it's her hair. :)

Hmmm, I really like this! One of my favorite details is how her kimono mirrors the scene outside the window. That truly is a detailed sakura tree! I would have had never gotten to that level of detail.

Stuff... (critiquing time!) I like your style, but her shoulders seem a tad narrow. Is that just me? I love your attention to detail in the hair, folds, etc.

Yay, thanks! I'm glad you noticed the kimono/window thing. I tried to do that on purpose, but then it really just became more of a laziness thing and I didn't want to do another background.

Yeah, her shoulders are a little narrow. I can't remember if my reference picture was like that, or if her hair just got a little out of hand and made her shoulders look small, or if it's just my silliness at perspective. Eek, I will definitely work on that, though, it's not just you.

And thanks on the favorite! :D
